Newcastle Knights' joint captain Tariq Sims attended the Auckland Nines captains launch at Aotea Square on Friday.
With the beginning of the tournament less than 24 hours away, Sims was excited to size up the opposition.
"There are some well known players here. We've got Shaun Johnson, Cooper Cronk, Braith Anasta," he told Knights TV during the launch.
"In a little bit we'll all be coming together and that's when we'll first get a look at all the teams and really assess who they brought."
A big crowd was on hand at the event as momentum continues to build towards the competition.
"I personally can't wait to get out there," Sims said.
"The hype is really starting to build up in Auckland now, so the quicker we can get out on the field the better."
