Their careers may be quite different, but players and sponsors found themselves on a level playing field at the annual Corporate Golf Day held at Newcastle Golf Club on Friday.

The teams, a mix of Knights and businessmen and women, converged on the course bright and early on a particularly steamy morning to take part in friendly four person ambrose golf competition.

For Newcastle Knight Nathan Ross, time on the green allowed him to learn more about the team at Business Basics.

“The boys have been teaching me a little bit about life away from football,” he said.

“We’re glad the guys have jumped on board this year and are going to help support us this year and will come out to the home games.”

It was a sentiment echoed by Anthony Flintham from Business Basics who appreciated the opportunity to get to know the Knights’ new talent on a personal level.

“It’s really interesting to find out more about the guys and find out about their lives outside of football and how that interacts with their game,” Flintham added.

Winner of the longest drive during the day, Jack Stockwell, agreed the relaxed atmosphere gave the players a unique chance to interact with some of their biggest backers.

“It’s really good, they are good blokes and are easy to get along with,” he said about his teammates from Klosters.

Korbin Sims is arguably the keenest golfer among the Knights admitting to playing a couple times a week, before the recent arrival of his first son.

Understandably, the Knights Corporate Golf day is the highlight of the team’s promotional schedule for the skilful Knights frontman.

“It’s always good, I love coming here to play at the Knights Golf Day, especially changing sponsor teams each year. It’s always good to meet different people,” he said.

“It’s all about having a bit of fun today, nothing too serious.”

While they didn’t have a swing themselves, Aku Uate returned this year with Mickey Paea on the 14th hole to collect donations for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, with the tally exceeding more than $1000 for the worthy cause.

The charity is one that’s close to the Knights’ hearts with Korbin Sims currently fundraising for the house by shaving off his well-developed beard.
