The Newcastle Knights’ NYC under 20s coach, Troy Pezet is pleased with the opportunity the weekend’s trial match against Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs has provided to assist in making selections for his 2015 squad.

The Knights fielded a solid team comprised of players from the Club’s under 20s transition squad as well as a number of players invited to play from the local competition.

“We had a good lead early on in the game, but they came back and leveled it off towards the end,” Pezet said about the 28-4 loss.

Pezet saw pleasing performances from local players Dylan Pythian, Jack Kelly and Jarrad Nott.

Ken Tofilau and Jack Mackin also played impressively after training with NYC squad during the pre-season.

“The players who have spent time with with the NYC group or NSW Cup group, on limited preparation, they did a good job,” he said.

“Our top NYC squad did an opposed session against the NRL squad on Saturday morning and the players who weren’t involved in that played against the Bulldogs.

“Everyone got plenty of footy on the weekend, which will now allow us to pick a more condensed NYC squad for this Saturday’s trial.”

The NYC Knights play another trial on Saturday February 14 against Parramatta at McCredie Oval, Guilford.

"We will run a similar size squad which will give the Knights to trial a few more players who could be included before a final trial against the Raiders,” Pezet said.
