Gagai makes a break.

An off-field accident to Newcastle Knights centre Dane Gagai has resulted in a hamstring injury.

“After watching the Four Nations final, I was sliding down a handrail, as I often do, when I fell off it backwards and hit an object,” Gagai explains.

“I injured my hamstring however I am lucky the injury wasn’t more serious.

“I was given a week off and would have returned to training this week but I am in Queensland at the moment to visit a sick family member.

“I will be back in Newcastle next week and look forward to getting into my rehab training then.”

While Gagai admits it is a set back to his pre-season, he remains on track to play trial matches.

“The doctor said it is four to six weeks in rehab and then back with the main group just after Christmas and in time for trials,” Gagai added.

“I was a having a good pre-season so this is obviously disappointing however I know how lucky I am as the injury could have been a lot worse.”
