Newcastle Knights Joseph Leilua, David Fa'alogo and brothers Sione and Chanel Mata'utia have been named in Samoa's preliminary train-on squad ahead of this year’s Four Nations tournament.

Rugby League Samoa President Tagaloa Faafouina Su'a announced the 24-strong squad, chosen from teams not contesting the NRL finals on Monday.

Toa Samoa coach Matt Parish said his squad would be looking to build on the success of last year’s World Cup and this year’s Pacific Test win over Fiji.

“I’m looking forward to getting the guys back together again for this tournament,” Parish said.

“We have been able to pick some exciting players in the train-on squad and we will be able to add some outstanding talent over the course of the NRL finals.

“I’m certainly confident of what we can do in the Four Nations. We aim to be very competitive against strong opposition and showcase some of the great talent we have.

“This is a great opportunity for not only our experienced players but also our younger players, who have a chance to set themselves up for long club and representative careers.”

Parish will continue to add players to the train-on squad after NRL teams are eliminated from the finals. A final 24-man squad will then be announced on October 6.

Toa Samoa plays England on October 25 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
