Jarrod Mullen isn't playing in Wednesday night's opening Origin but the Knights five-eighth says he'll still be cheering on the Blues from his Merewether lounge room.

While Mullen missed out on selection in this year's series, the classy playmaker hopes NSW can perform well and finally end Queensland's eight-year dominance.

"I would love to be playing, but it’s obviously not meant to be," Mullen said after training on Monday.

"I hope NSW can win though and end this streak.

"It will be nice to get a win up there first off.

"That will definitely give them a bit of confidence heading into the next one.

"But it’s not going to be easy, because it's definitely tough playing up there (in Brisbane)."

Mullen is particularly looking forward to watching teammate Beau Scott in action, a bloke who has been one of the Club's best performers this season.

"Beau has been our best player all year," he says.

"He definitely deserves his spot there. He is an Origin type of player and hopefully he can play good for himself, his family and definitely for Newcastle."
