The Newcastle Knights send sincere condolences to the family, friends and work colleagues of the miners involved in an overnight tragedy at Austar mine in the Hunter.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the two miners' family and loved ones,” CEO Matt Gidley said on Wednesday.

“We naturally have a close association with the mining industry and hope in time, we will be able to provide support to the families involved.”

The Knights will wear black arm bands as a sign of respect in Friday night’s game against the Brisbane Broncos.

The Club will also talk to appropriate sponsors about ways to join together to provide future assistance.
