Matthew Van Hoek was given a behind the scenes game day experience when he was a special guest of the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium on Sunday.

The young Knights fan was thrilled to watch his team’s 30-0 win over the Sharks before meeting the players in the dressing sheds.

15-year-old Matthew has Cerebral Palsy as well as a number of other medical problems.

His parents Debbie and John explained that as soon as he was able to take an interest in Rugby League, he followed the Knights after their neighbour and friend, Scott, influenced young Matthew.

“He had a great time meeting all the Knights players and watching his team win 30-nil," Debbie said.

"The delight in his eyes was priceless.

“Each year Matthew's interest in football increases, so days like today mean so much to him."

Matthew’s dedication and knowledge of his team and the game is impressive.

He can tell everyone when and who the Knights play each week and always looks forward to the weekend when he can watch the Knights in action.

“I would like to congratulate all the players for the genuine friendship and kindness shown to Matthew,” Debbie added.

“We really appreciate your kindness and the time you took out of a busy day to give our son so much joy."
