As the Newcastle Knights wrapped pre-season training on Friday, here is an update on the injury list heading into round one against the Penrith Panthers.

Jarrod Mullen has commenced rehabilitation on his injured hamstring with some light running. His program for the next four weeks won’t alter much while the hamstring repairs. Mullen hopes to return sooner however the medical staff expect his return at earliest in round 13.

Clint Newton had surgery on his ruptured bicep on Monday and early reports are the surgery went well. He will be reviewed by the surgeon next week. Newton is expected to be sidelined for three to four months.

Adam Clydsdale starts running on Wednesday after injuring his knee in the final training session in Tamworth. The young hooker is on track and expected to be available for selection in round two. Zane Tetevano also resumed running on Wednesday after he fractured a bone in his hand in the Tamworth trial match. Tetevano will start training with the football next week and remains on track for a return in round three.

Jeremy Smith was in some doubt after a knee clash in the Tamworth trial but has recovered well and is expected to play in the round one encounter in Penrith.
