When it comes to a player who embodies the spirit and toughness of the Newcastle Knights, its hard to go past Danny Buderus.

Buderus bled red and blue as a player for 14 seasons to finish his career as one of the most respected footballers in the Club's proud history.

Now the Knights legend is set to give back to the Club that gave him so much by officially joining the team in an off-field role.

From helping out in leadership with junior players to coaching, ambassador work and various commercial duties in the office, Buderus will play a crucial part in Newcastle's success in 2014.

The veteran of 257 NRL games says it's an honour to continue working for the Knights, a Club where he has won a premiership, made countless friends and lifetime memories.

Im thrilled to continue my long association with the Knights and help out the Club that gave me so much during my career, Buderus says.

I've been so fortunate to have played for Newcastle and all the fans, so it's great to take up a few roles within the Club to make sure the Knights remain a frontrunner in the NRL competition.

"A big reason I came back to Newcastle after my stint with Leeds was to help out the next generation of players, so it's exciting to be able to work with them in a new coaching and mentoring role.

"I will always be a Newcastle Knight and I'll never forget what the Club has done for me, so I'm really looking forward to working with the Club in 2014 and doing my bit to make it even better."
