Fans travelling from Newcastle to Sydney Olympic Park for this afternoon’s NRL match are advised to plenty of extra travel time due to a failed freight train at Warnervale.
Trains have resumed journeys between Newcastle and Wyong at slower speeds, with some buses supplementing trains between Morisset and Wyong.
Alternatively, passengers can make their way to Wyong.
The majority of replacement buses will run express or as required to Hornsby where passengers can join either a T1 North Shore or T9 Northern Line train.
“Diversions are currently in place that will allow train services to move around the failed freight train, however, this is adding at least one hour to journeys," said Sydney Trains Head of Rail Operations, Jas Tumber.
“We apologise for this inconvenience and thank passengers for their patience. Pacific National have mobilised their repair crews to temporarily repair the failed freight train as soon as possible.
“We are encouraging passengers to allow extra time for their journeys and to follow the directions of station staff.”

On Sunday afternoon at Cbus Super Stadium and the Broncos will look to keep their title defence alive when they meet Titans in an epic prelim final showdown.

- Additional Sydney services will depart Newcastle Interchange for Strathfield at 12:01pm and 12:56pm.
- Direct trains from Strathfield to Sydney Olympic Park every 10 minutes.
- Trains from Lidcombe every 10 minutes.
- Direct trains from Parramatta and Blacktown every 15 minutes.
- Direct trains from Richmond every 30 minutes.
- Trains from Central to Lidcombe every 5-10 minutes.
- Trains from Broadmeadow to Lidcombe (changing at Strathfield) every hour.
- After the game, eight trains an hour will depart Sydney Olympic Park between 6pm and 8pm, connecting fans with Central and Strathfield for services back to the Hunter.
- Two additional Newcastle services will also depart Sydney Terminal at 6:45pm and 7:17pm.
