One of the game's great rivalries was on show at CommBank Stadium to launch Sunday's NRL action with the Eels hosting old foes Manly.
The Eels and Sea Eagles have met 165 times since 1947 and it's the boys from the northern beaches who held a sizeable head-to-head advantage which they added to with a 33-18 win at 4 Pines Park in Round 8.
This time however, the Eels were able to turn the tables in an upset, securing a 23-14 victory.
Next up, the action headed to Newcastle to bring down the curtain on Round 18 with the Knights hosting the Dolphins.
The Knights and Dolphins have met just six times previously, with Newcastle winning five of those.
The Dolphins won the first ever clash in 2023, but since then the Knights have well and truly had the advantage.
That continued in wet conditions in a hard-fought game where the Knights were just able to outpoint their opposition, with a Dylan Brown field goal proving the difference in the 13-12 win.

Knights: Round 18
Full-time: The Knights hold on to claim a 13-12 win and in the process, also take fourth spot on the ladder from the Knights. Two teams in good form but missing a number of their stars, it wasn't the attacking display fans were hoping for - especially in teeming conditions by the end of the game. But the Knights started well and held a 12-0 lead, only scoring the winning field goal in the second half as the Dolphins fought back.
77th min: A captain's challenge from the Dolphins is inconclusive after they are penalised for a kick off not breaking the plane when Isaako had made a leap trying to tap it back.
76th min: The Knights edge back in front with Dylan Brown slotting a field goal from right in front. It had looked like Newcastle had ruined their opportunity with Smith being tackled with the ball. However, in the next play, it goes to the left to Brown who slots it. Newcastle lead 13-12.
Brown inches the Knights ahead
71st min: A 40/20 from Phoenix Crossland gets the Knights out of trouble and into attacking range.
69th min: The Dolphins get a penalty with a high shot and Isaako opts to go for the two. His attempt is successful and the scores are locked at 12-12.
61st min: Dolphins utility forward John Fineanganofo is on for his NRL debut as well.
Milestone alert: With that conversion - Jamayne Isaako his reached 200 points for the season.
59th min: The Dolphins do go back-to-back in the end, with Kurt Donoghoe on the end of a great break from Jake Averillo in his own half. The Dolphins had just turned the Knights away on their own line and forced a forward pass, causing a turnover. The visitors go on the attack, with the Fiji international about to take the offload behind him before running over. Isaako takes the ball back almost 40 metres to convert the try, with the ball hitting the posts before going over.
53rd min: The Dolphins almost go back-to-back with Farnworth taking clean possession of a high kick and fighting his way towards the line - but he bangs the ball down just short of the line and then loses possession over the line.
51st min: Dolphins winger Jamayne Isaako maintains his impressive point-scoring streak, going over on the right edge for the first try for the visitors. The Dolphins got their attacking change after a one-one-one strip - not from specialist Farnworth this time but from debutant Seb Su'a - to get in good attacking position. Isaako can't convert and it's 12-4 to Newcastle.
Jamayne Isaako Try
50th min: Still no change to the half-time score, with the Dolphins doing well to withstand some sustained pressure on their goal line. Herbie Farnworth has stripped a few balls to regain possession, but no reward for his side as yet. Newcastle remain in the lead 12-0.
Half-time: The Knights take in a deserved 12-0 lead, with the Dolphins unable to break through the defence of the home side. A slip ups by the visitors have been pounced on, while Newcastle have been able to shut down the Dolphins in attack, especially on their edges.
37th min: Another try to the Knights as Fletcher Hunt shows too much strength and speed with his run that attacks the right edge of the Dolphins. He burst through the defence and races in to score. Smith converts again and it's 12-0 to Newcastle.
30th min: No change to the score with the Knights holding their 6-0 lead. Both team's have shown good resolve in defence, especially on their edges, while the Dolphins have managed to soak up some pressure on their try line as well.
28th min: Former Newcastle product Sebastian Su'a is on for the Dolphins, making his NRL club debut.
27th min: Lachlan Crouch from Newcastle is on for his NRL debut.
17th min: The home side are on the board first in an impressive try for Dylan Lucas who made things look all too easy with some footwork. The second rower ran through a big gap with both Jeremy Marshall-King and Trai Fuller slipping over in their attempts to stop him on his run. Sandon Smith's conversion attempt is a success and Knights lead 6-0.
Dylan Lucas Try
Injury alert: Jacob Saifiti is off the field with a hamstring injury.
11th min: A captain's challenge by Newcastle on a knock on ruling on Sandon Smith is successful - however, the Knights are instead penalised from the resulting play in the sequence.
10th min: No score yet with both sides showing plenty of tough defence.
Kick off: Newcastle kick us off and the Dolphins have first use of the ball.

45th min: The lead is shortlived for the Eels with Manly hitting back almost instantly through Joey Walsh with a determined run and put-down. Manly got the ball back from a clever short kick along the ground from Reuben Garrick that he collected himself, catching the Eels napping. The Sea Eagles then went on the attack, with Walsh able to collect the deflection from an attempt to bring down the high ball, showing strength to wrestle his way to the ground. Forgarty converts from in front and the score is 14-10 to Manly.
Joey Walsh Try
43rd min: The Eels hit the front again with a try to Kelma Tuilagi to open the half. A great looking try that Dylan Walker helps set it up with a break and then a 'around-the-back' spinning flick pass for the charging second rower. Pezet can't convert and it's 10-8 in a close match.
