The nib Newcastle Knights have secured the signature of exciting local teenager Toby Winter, upgrading and extending his contact until the end of 2029.
Winter, 18, will be elevated to NRL Development List for 2026 and 2027, before joining the NRL top 30 for the remaining two-year his contract extension, on the back of an impressive pre-season.
The Australian Schoolboy’s representative journey to securing a long term NRL contract is unique, with Winter opting to play all his junior football in second division with his mates at the Dudley Magpies and resisting the constant pressure to move to a division 1 club.
nib Newcastle Knights Head of Recruitment Peter O’Sullivan said the electric fullback, centre or winger is a poster boy for the club’s pathways systems.
“We are really pleased for Toby and his family, he has worked hard for this, “said O’Sullivan.
“His progression over the past two seasons from playing SG Ball into making a huge impression on the NRL playing squad and coaching staff during the off season, is remarkable.
“Not too many players handle the rigours and challenges of an NRL pre-season in their first attempt, Toby looked and trained like a seasoned professional, confirming its not if but when he plays NRL.”
