Knights Bolster Pathways Program

The nib Newcastle Knights have further bolstered their significant investment in pathways programs, confirming the return of Alex McKinnon and Andrew Ryan to newly created roles at the Club.

McKinnon, Knight 232, returns to the Knights recruitment team in a newly created role as Pathways Recruitment Analyst, designed to drive innovation and infrastructure around talent identification.

nib Newcastle Knights Director of Football Chris James spoke about McKinnon’s return to the Knights recruitment team.

“I'm delighted to welcome Alex back home to the Knights,” James said.  

“This is where he belongs, and his passion for identifying and developing our next generation of talent is exactly what this role needs.

“Alex brings a unique perspective - he understands what it takes to succeed at this club and the responsibility we have to nurture young players through every stage of their development.”

Former International and NRL Premiership winning captain Ryan, rejoins the Knights in a brand-new part-time role as Pathways Recruitment Scout.

Ryan and his family have resided in Newcastle for over 10 years, immersing in the local community with strong ties to rugby league, media and the broader network of Novacastrians.

nib Newcastle Knights Director of Football Chris James said Ryan’s presence in the local community will play a key role in the club’s commitment to Newcastle and Hunter rugby league.  

“Having Andrew return to the Knights is fantastic for our pathways program,” James said.  

“He brings elite-level playing experience combined with genuine local knowledge - he's been part of the Newcastle community for over 10 years and understands the Hunter rugby league landscape intimately.

“His role will see him actively involved in the Hunter Junior Rugby League, ensuring we're identifying and supporting talented young players early in their development, wherever they play across the Hunter region.”
