Newcastle Knights and Mid North Coast Development Partnership

The nib Newcastle Knights and Mid North Coast Rugby League have formalised a comprehensive three-year partnership agreement, designed to strengthen rugby league development across the Group 2 and Group 3 competitions.

The Memorandum of Understanding, establishes a development-first framework, including coach education, volunteer capabilities and creating equitable pathways for both male and female players from the Mid North Coast region.

This partnership aligns with the Knights' strategic commitment of becoming a leading development club, by creating clear pathways to become a Newcastle Knight.

The partnership emphasises mutual accountability over compliance, with agreed KPIs around participation numbers, pathway progression, coach education attendance and increased retention of local talent.

Newcastle Knights Director of Football Chris James said the partnership represents a consistent commitment to regional rugby league development.

"This isn't about branding or symbolic gestures, it's about having a genuine presence in the community and investing in the people who make rugby league strong at the grassroots level," James said.

"We're committed to consistent connections for both genders on coach education and player development, creating transparent pathways for talented young people to keep them connected to their local clubs and communities.

"The Mid North Coast has produced outstanding rugby league talent for generations, this partnership is about providing every talented player, coach, referee and volunteer the support and opportunities they deserve, regardless of where they live."

Mid North Coast Rugby League Chairman Warren Blissett welcomed the partnership as a significant commitment to regional rugby league.

"This agreement represents a genuine investment in our people and our competitions," Blissett said.

"What stands out is the focus on development across the entire system, including coaches, trainers, referees and administrators, not just elite players.

“The commitment to have Knights staff regularly in our region, delivering face-to-face education and support, is exactly what our volunteers and young people need.

"We've worked hard to ensure this partnership protects regional equity and creates real opportunities for our communities.

The Knights have listened, and together we've built something that will strengthen rugby league right across the Mid North Coast."
