The nib Newcastle Knights are delighted to confirm highly regarded performance leader Will Markwick has commenced his new role as NRL Head of Performance.
After an extensive search across numerous sports globally, the Knights have secured the services of Markwick, who has hit the ground running in Knights NRL pre-season training.
Knights Director of Football Chris James highlighted the significance of this appointment.
“We are really pleased to welcome Will to the Knights,” James said.
“The Head of Performance is a critical position in elite sporting organisations, it requires strong leadership, extensive experience and innovation, all traits Will has a proven track record in across various sports around the world.
“Will grew up in the sporting breeding grounds of Dubbo, providing him with a strong understanding of the importance of community connection and developing a determined hard work ethic, from a very young age.
“We look forward to watching our players and staff leverage off his extensive high performance experience and expertise, aiming to deliver the elite standards required to achieve sustained success across all our Newcastle Knights NRL performance programs.”
Markwick shared the background of the decision and his focus in the new role.
“My family and I are excited to settle into life in Newcastle,” Markwick said.
“Growing up in Dubbo, I understand the pride and character that comes with a community that loves rugby league, this has a much greater purpose than just a job.
“After moving around the world with a young family, I cannot wait to raise our children in this one team town, tapping into a rich history, whilst creating a new identity for this current group.
“The timing was perfect, new surroundings under Head Coach Justin Holbrook, creating an opportunity to start from scratch and build something special.”
