League Stars Tag Carnival grows across the Hunter

The NRL Game Development team, in collaboration with the nib Newcastle Knights, has successfully delivered the League Stars Stage 1 League-Tag Carnival across the Hunter Region.

Spanning seven action-packed days, the program saw 248 teams from 88 schools and more than 2,250 students participate at venues including Dungog, Kurri Kurri, Salamander Bay, Swansea, Thornton, Wangi and Waratah.

The carnival offered students the opportunity to learn new skills, build friendships, and connect with peers from across the region, with many experiencing rugby league for the first time through this fun and inclusive format.

The Knights have a proud history of supporting grassroots rugby league and, together with the NRL Game Development team, remain committed to nurturing the next generation of players.

“It's an exciting initiative between the Game Development team and the Newcastle Knights,” said Luke Lawrence, NRL Game Development Officer.

“The carnival continues to grow each year, with a further 15 schools and 55 teams joining since our 2024 event. It would be great to see us reach the 100-school milestone in 2026.”
