Knights NRLW season comes to an end in Brisbane

The Newcastle Knights’ 2025 NRLW campaign came to an end at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as the Brisbane Broncos proved too good in a Preliminary Final clash, running out 30–6 winners.

Brisbane ran in five tries to the Knights one as the red and blue were denied a shot at the NRLW Grand Final.

How it played out:

In the 4th minute, Jada Ferguson crashed over from dummy-half and, with the conversion added, Brisbane led 6-0. Minutes later, Kerri Johnson struck in the corner, and the home side were already asserting significant pressure.

For the Knights, opportunities were limited. On the 22nd minute, Tamika Upton extended Brisbane’s lead, and shortly after, Lauren Dam scored to extend the Broncos lead to 24-0.

Soon after, Yasmin Clydsdale showed her trademark determination to deny Julia Robinson a certain try and keep the Knights in the game after a midfield break.

Just before half-time, Jules Kirkpatrick gave the Knights life diving over from dummy half as the red and blue trailed 24-6 at the change of ends.

The middles were stern for Newcastle, with their edge work barred by the Broncos’ defensive intensity.

In the second half, Broncos winger Kerri Johnson raced down the sideline to end any hope of a Knights comeback in the 48th minute.

The Knights fought hard for the remaining minutes but couldn't get on top of the Brisbane outfit.

A big thank you to all our NRLW Members, supporters, sponsors, family and friends for another huge campaign.

We'll be back in 2026.
