Knights defeated in final home match of the season

The nib Newcastle Knights have gone down 46-12 to the Brisbane Broncos at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors proved too good in our final home match of the season running in nine tries to the Knights two.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the red and blue will look to finish as high as possible ahead of two trips to Sydney to face the Sharks and the Eels.

How it played out:

The match kicked off in front a strong Knights crowd of 25,814 Members and supporters on a glorious winters day in the Hunter.

Brisbane would start fast and were on the board early when Kotoni Staggs posted the opening try.

The away side doubled their early lead when Josiah Karapani crossed over in the opposite corner.

Newcastle worked their way back into the game starting to earn field position.

However, the Broncos would strike their third of the game as Reece Walsh set up Kobe Hetherington under the posts.

With eight minutes to play in the half, Phoenix Crossland jumped into action and put in a deft kick for a rampaging Leo Thompson to run onto.

The Knights would trail 14-6 at the break.

Brisbane would kick on with the result in the second half running in six second half tries courtesy of Deine Mariner, Payne Haas, Reece Walsh, Gehamat Shibasaki and Jordan Riki.

Bradman Best won the race to the ball for a consolation try for the Knights.

The match finished 46-12 to the way of the visitors.
