As part of this year’s Telstra Footy Country Round, the nib Newcastle Knights NRL and NRLW teams are proudly pulling on the Kotara Bears socks for our ‘Rise in Their Socks’ campaign, a celebration of grassroots rugby league.
Last month, Knights Members had their say, voting for their favourite junior club to be showcased on game day. The competition was fierce, but the Kotara Bears emerged as the clear winners, earning the honour of having their club colours worn by Knights players on the big stage.
From dedicated volunteers to young players chasing their dreams, the Bears are a shining example of what makes grassroots footy so special. Their commitment to their community and to fostering the next generation of rugby league talent is exactly what this campaign is all about.
Adding to the celebration, this round also marks a personal tribute for Knights NRLW star Jesse Southwell, a proud Kotara Bears junior.
Stepping onto McDonald Jones Stadium wearing her junior club’s socks is a full-circle moment, and a reminder to every young player of the pathway from the local park to the professional arena.
You can catch both our teams donning the socks at this Sunday's massive Old Boys Day double header at McDonald Jones Stadium, with tickets on sale now.
