nib Newcastle Knights forward Kayla Romaniuk has etched her name into the history books, becoming the first player to earn three consecutive Veronica White Medal nominations for her outstanding contribution to the community.
The Veronica White Medal, awarded annually to the NRLW player who best demonstrates commitment to community service, is one of the most prestigious off-field honours in the game. Kayla’s remarkable hat-trick of nominations reflects not just her consistency, but the genuine and lasting impact she continues to have across the Hunter region.
Her strongest connection lies with Ronald McDonald House Newcastle, where she has dedicated the past three years to supporting families during some of their most difficult times. She turns up at Christmas, Easter, and countless other moments, all during her own time.

When children are too unwell to take part in group activities, Kayla ensures they aren’t left behind. She sits with them individually, bringing comfort and companionship when it’s needed most. These small acts, done consistently, have left a profound mark on families who remember her kindness long after their hospital stay.
Through the Knights’ Inspire program, she has visited schools across Newcastle, sharing powerful messages about resilience, teamwork, and making positive choices. Teachers often report that students continue talking about her visit for weeks afterward, a testament to the impact she makes in the classroom.
At the grassroots level, she is just as dedicated. Earlier this year, Kayla attended the Under 7s Tackle Ready Gala Day in her own time, spending the day with more than 300 excited young players. For many of them, meeting a Knights NRLW star was a dream come true
The Knights are incredibly proud to see Kayla recognised once again with a Veronica White Medal nomination. In a sport defined by toughness and determination, she has shown that true strength is measured by the way you lift others up.
Whether it’s standing beside families in hospital, inspiring school kids, or giving her time to junior players, Kayla Romaniuk continues to set the standard for what it means to be a Newcastle Knight, on and off the field.
