A late Leka Halasima try following a deflected field goal attempt from the away side sunk Knights hearts in the final minute of the game.
On another huge Voice for Mining Family Day, over 21,000 supporters turned out wearing their hi-vis.
How it played out:
The match kicked off on a beautiful afternoon at the home of the Knights with a strong 21,117 crowd decked out in orange hi-vis for Voice for Mining Family Day.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the game when Tanah Boyd put in a grubber kick for centre Adam Pompey to run onto.
Newcastle worked their way back into the contest and were on the scoreboard in the 21st moment.
A high ball was contested by Dom Young and the ball found its way back to Fletcher Hunt, who made no mistake to ground the ball.
The Knights attack was clicking into gear and it wasn't long until they had their second.

Hunt is on the spot
The Knights extended their lead out to six points when Marzhew ran over in the corner for a try of his own.
That effort saw Newcastle leading 12-6 at the change of ends after a promising opening 40 minutes.
The Warriors were first to score after the break when Demitric Vaimauga crossed over for the visitors to lock the score up at 12-all.
Newcastle were back in front when Dane Gagai converted a penalty goal from in front to put the hi-vis Knights ahead by two.

Marzhew untouched to the line
With 12 minutes to play, the Warriors locked up the score at 14-all with a penalty goal of their own.
In a frantic final five minutes, Jack Cogger began the chaos as he slotted a field goal with five minutes to play to put the Knights ahead by 1.
Warriors halfback Tanah Boyd then missed a late penalty goal from 30 metres out with two minutes to play, before he attempted a late field goal in the dying stages.
The ball was charged down, however the ricochet ended up in the hands of Halasima, who ran 40 metres to score and win the game for the away side.

The Knights travel away to face the Canberra Raiders in the nation's capital next Sunday at 2pm.
