The nib Newcastle Knights have defeated the Dolphins 26-20 at HBP Park, Perth on Saturday night.

A late try from Brodie Jones in the final minute sealed a memorable victory for the red and blue.

Dom Young picked up where he left off in the red and blue jumper while Bradman Best was instrumental in his return game from injury, setting up the thrilling final try for Jones.

Newcastle return home next Friday night for a massive, Beanie for Brain Cancer Round clash against the Raiders. Take your seat.

How it played out:

The match kicked off in wet and windy conditions at HBP Park in Perth.

The Knights were on the board early inside four minutes when Fletcher Sharpe put himself in the right spot.

A high kick was contested by Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Knights winger Dom Young, with the former knocking the ball backwards towards the in-goal, with Sharpe on hand to gather the ball for the opening try of the game.

Sharpe's on hand

Dolphins hit back six minutes later following a break from Jack Bostock, with the winger finding Kodi Nikorima in support to put the margin to within two.

The Knights extended their lead when Bradman Best marked his return from injury with a four-pointer.

A well-weighted grubber from Kalyn Ponga sat up perfectly for the fast-moving centre for the Knights second try of the game.

Best is back

Six minutes later, Dom Young also marked his return in the red and blue with a trademark move in the corner.

A quick move to the right gave some space to the flying Englishman and the winger made no mistake for his first four-pointer back in Knights colours.

Dom Young returns

Nine minutes before half-time, the Dolphins bridged the deficit with a try to Connelly Lemuelu.

Heading into the sheds, Newcastle led the Dolphins 16-10.

After a cagey opening to the second half, Dane Gagai was sent to the sin-bin following a professional foul on Herbie Farnworth in the 50th minute.

The Dolphins would capitalize on the extra man with two consecutive tries to hit the lead when Jamayne Isaako and Tabuai-Fidow crossed the stripe.

Newcastle would respond however, with Bradman Best notching his second of the afternoon.

In an almost carbon copy play from the first half, Kalyn Ponga rolled in another grubber for the centre to run onto and Best planted the ball down to lock-up the score at 20-all with 17 to play.

Best and Ponga combine again

The Knights looked to have hit the lead with a try of the year contender with Jayden Brailey finishing off the move, however James Schiller was ruled to have made a forward pass on the last pass before the line.

The last pass was called forward

Tied at 20-all and heading into the final minute, Phoenix Crossland sent a last-gasp kick high into the air and the ball was fumbled by Tabuai-Fidow.

The ball made its way to Best, who burst through the Dolphins defence before finding Brodie Jones in support and the tireless forward reached out to score.
