The nib Newcastle Knights are proud to announce the West Wallsend Magpies as our June Club of the Month, recognising a season of remarkable growth, inclusion, and community impact.

In a milestone moment for the Magpies, 2025 has seen the club field its first-ever all-female side - the WT Under 14 Ladies - with 20 players taking the field in their debut year.

From just one registered female player in 2024 to 27 across various age groups this season, the surge in participation is a powerful reflection of the club’s commitment to growing the female game.

That growth has been driven by a proactive approach to inclusion, with the Magpies proudly taking part in the Lake Macquarie Women in Sport Festival, offering free registrations, and hosting multiple ‘come and try’ days.

Outreach into local schools and community groups has further helped open the door for more young players to experience the game in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The club also continues to collaborate regionally, with eight players registered on a portable basis through the Macquarie Scorpions.

On and off the field, the Magpies are building something special. Senior A Grade players and coaching staff regularly mentor junior squads, providing not only footy skills but also positive role models.

The club’s culture of support is also shaped by regular ‘town hall’ meetings and an open-door policy that keeps parents, volunteers, and staff connected and aligned.

Congratulations to the West Wallsend Magpies on being named our June Club of the Month. The future is bright at Johnston Park, and we look forward to seeing this proud club continue to grow and thrive.
