The nib Newcastle Knights have been defeated by the St. George Illawarra Dragons, with the Red V holding out a fast-finishing Knights 20-6 at Jubilee Stadium.
Coming off a six-day turnaround from last weekend's 25-6 win over the Panthers in Bathurst, the Knights were unable to repeat the scorching attacking form that was produced against Penrith.
The Dragons took full advantage, with tries to Jaydn Su'A, Clint Gutherson and Loko Pasifiki Tonga giving the Dragons an 18-0 lead at half-time.
Enjoying 55% of possession throughout the contest, the Dragons continued to wear down Adam O'Brien's men in a torrid second half.
A try to Kai Pearce-Paul gave the Knights hope with 10 minutes to go, however the red and blue failed to capitalise on the surge of momentum that followed.
