After reviewing an outstanding pool of submissions, the East Maitland Griffins stood out for their commitment to female participation, player development, and community inclusion.
The Griffins have seen a remarkable 340% increase in female participation, growing from just 10 players in 2024 to 44 in 2025.
This is thanks to their investment in female coaches, establishment of a Female Wellbeing Coordinator, and initiatives like 'Wellbeing Wednesday', which supports players both on and off the field.
Their commitment to providing female-friendly facilities and custom gear further highlights their proactive approach to inclusion and empowerment.
With strategic fundraising, strong sponsorship, and the acquisition of resources such as a Veo camera and custom-made mouth guards, the Griffins are creating a safe and development-focused environment.
Their support for coaching development, player safety, and community-led clinics has reinforced their place as a club dedicated to growing the game from the ground up.
The club’s efforts to build a welcoming and respectful environment are extensive—from appointing a Child Safety Officer and implementing an internal discipline policy to exploring an Aboriginal Liaison role.
Programs like gear swap initiatives and culturally respectful engagement practices demonstrate a clear understanding of the diverse needs of their community.
Their work in planning awareness rounds around domestic violence and cancer also shows their commitment to broader social causes.
