The nib Newcastle Knights have fallen short against the Gold Coast Titans with a 24-20 loss at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

After racing out to a 20-point lead, the Titans scored 24 unanswered to overcome the Knights.

The red and blue will look to hit back when they host the Parramatta Eels next Friday night.

How it played out:

1st min: The Knights kicked off in front of 15,193 Members and supporters at McDonald Jones Stadium. The players ran out in front of their wives, partners and mothers as part of Women in League Round.

2nd min: A high tackle by Sam Verrills on Kalyn Ponga, allowed the Knights to take an early lead. Knights 2-0 Titans

15th min: The Knights spent much of the opening exchanges peppering the Titans line and they finally broke through. Dylan Lucas broke through the line to extend his side's lead. Knights 8-0 Titans

24th minute: Attacking from near halfway, the Knights shifted left before Kalyn Ponga skipped across field to engage the defence. Bradman Best followed up with a superb flick pass to send Greg Marzhew down the sideline and Fletcher Sharpe finished it off. Knights 14-0 Titans

Croker won't be stopped

36th minute: The Titans have had limited opportunities with ball in hand but a Tino Fa'asuamaleaui offload provided a chance to Jayden Campbell to break through and they capitalised a couple of plays later when Phillip Sami crashed over. Knights 20-6 Titans

40th min: Adam O'Brien's side entered the sheds with 59% of possession, a 95% completion rate and nearly double the total running metres. Knights 20-6 Titans

45th min: The Titans fought their way back into the contest with a second try to Phillip Sami after the break. Knights 20-12 Titans

65th min: AJ Brimson put the Titans to within two with a try in the corner following an offload from Alofiana Khan-Pereira. Knights 20-18 Titans

77th min: Gold Coast hit the lead when Brimson won the race to the ball following a kick from Khan-Pereira. Knights 20-24 Titans

80th min: The match finished 24-20 to the way of the Titans.
