Pathways Report: Senior Reps begin campaigns, SG Ball continue form

The Senior Representatives campaigns kicked off last week with the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup teams taking on the Canberra Raiders.

On Saturday, the nib Newcastle Knights Junior Reps squads were in action at St Johns Oval Charlestown with the Harold Matthews Cup team rested with the bye.

NSW Cup | Knights 22-38 Raiders

The NSW Cup side kicked off their season on Thursday night at McDonald Jones Stadium, going down in a high-scoring affair.

The Raiders would open the scoring before Fletcher Myers posted the Knights' first try of the Cup campaign five minutes after Canberra's opener.

Canberra would hit the lead with four tries inside 13 minutes of each other.

NSW Cup: 2024 Round 1 Highlights

Knights fullback Fletcher Sharpe reduced the deficit before half-time, showing his speed picking up a loose ball inside his own half and running through the Raiders' defence to score.

Sharpe would have a second after the break, diving on a ball in the in-goal following a kick.

Although, the Knights wouldn't be able to stage a comeback with Tom Cant, scoring a late consolation try.

Jersey Flegg Cup | Knights 18-30 Raiders

The Jersey Flegg Cup squad kicked off their season at St Johns Oval on Saturday, falling short by 12 points at the hands of the Raiders.

Canberra would open up an 18-0 lead at the break with three tries in the first half.

The Knights aimed to stage a comeback, chasing 24 points after conceding an early try in the second half.

Liam Sutton had the Knights' first before Siaosi Kaliti scored off a scrum win to reduce the margin.

The Knights would have four tries in succession with Tea-Rani Woodman Tuhoro and Jaxson Rahme adding four-pointers each to cut the deficit to six.

However, the comeback wasn't to be with Canberra notching a late try to take two points in the opening round.

SG Ball Cup | Knights 20-16 Eels

The SG Ball squad has won their fourth game in a row with a four-point win over the Parramatta Eels on Saturday.

The right-hand side attack was on fire with winger Harley Walker scoring a hat-trick.

Parramatta showed determination to fight their way back into the contest with tries on either side of the Knights' efforts.

SG Ball: 2024 Round 6 Highlights

Opposite Knights winger Sosaia Latu scored the side's fourth try to push the Knights' lead out to 10.

The Eels would score a late try with six minutes to play, but the red and blue would hold on to secure the victory.

With three games to go in the Under-19s regular season, the SG Ball squad sits in second spot on the ladder with the most points in the competition so far.

Tarsha Gale Cup | Knights 54-4 Dragons

The Tarsha Gale Cup squad has jumped up to fifth spot on the ladder with a comprehensive win over the Dragons on Saturday at St Johns Oval.

The side ran out to a 30-point lead at half-time with six tries in the first half, including an incredible solo-run from forward Fane Finau.

Finau would bag a first-half double while Lilly McNamara and Leelah Marks also scored two tries each.

Tarsha Gale Cup: 2024 Round 6 Highlights

Finau would have her hat-trick in the second half to continue the scoring for Newcastle.

Makaah Darcy, Lailah Clarke, and Evie Jones all got their names on the scoresheet as the side totaled 10 tries for the match.

The side moves up to fifth spot on the competition ladder with three games remaining.

Lisa Fiaola Cup | Knights 40-8 Dragons

The Lisa Fiaola Cup squad has made it back-to-back wins with a strong win over the Dragons.

The side ran in nine tries to the Dragons' two to record their second win of the season.

Taylah-Jane Belcher bagged a first-half double while Breanna Rawlins, Stevie Botham, and Macey Cox all scored in the first half.

Cox and Botham both scored their second in the second half while Maronay Smuts and Evie Purukamu also added four-pointers.

The side now sits in seventh spot on the ladder from the first five games.
