Pathways Report: SG Ball, Tarsha Gale squads return to winning ways

The Junior Representative competitions reached Round 3 over the weekend with the four nib Newcastle Knights lower grades in action.

The Knights hosted the Western Suburbs Magpies and the Wests Tigers on Saturday at St Johns Oval, Charlestown.

Meanwhile, the Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights travelled up to Port Macquarie to take on the North Coast Bulldogs.

SG Ball Cup | Knights 36-26 Magpies

The SG Ball Cup side returned to the winner's circle with a 10-point win over the Magpies on Saturday.

The squad were off to a strong start and led 24-6 at half-time courtesy of tries to Connor Votano, Cody Hopwood, Wilson De Courcey and Harley Walker.

Western Suburbs worked their way back into the contest with two tries of their just after half-time.

SG Ball: 2024 Round 3 Highlights

Noah Sefo added another try for the Knights before De Courcey scored his second of the match soon after.

Votano kicked six from six with the boot as the Knights would hold onto their lead.

After the opening three rounds, Newcastle sit in fifth spot on the Under 19's ladder with two wins and one loss.

Tarsha Gale Cup | Knights 24-4 Tigers

The Tarsha Gale Cup squad scored a convincing 20-point victory over the Wests Tigers on Saturday.

Centre Aylah McCulloch posted a try ten minutes into the contest to open the scoring.

Winger Lacey Mitchell would score a hat-trick to put the Knights on track for the two points.

The squad held the Tigers to one try before Evah McEwen added another four-pointer to seal the win for Newcastle.

Following the result, the Tarsha Gale Cup team sit in fifth spot on the ladder after the opening three rounds.

Harold Matthews Cup | Knights 16-18 Magpies

The Harold Matthews Cup side went down by two points to the Westerns Suburbs Magpies on Saturday.

The side trailed by 14 points to the Magpies at half-time after conceding three first-half tries.

In a similar situation to their previous game, the Knights were forced to stage a comeback and would almost swing the result.

Ryder Crosswell and Fletcher O'Doherty both scored in quick succession before the Magpies added another one of their own.

Ashton Allen scored with three minutes to play to keep the game alive for the Knights, but the side would run out of time.

The Under 17's side will play the Central Coast Roosters next start back at St Johns Oval Charlestown this Saturday.

The Lisa Fiaola Cup team were downed by four points by the Wests Tigers on Saturday.

After trailing 10-0 at the change of ends, the Knights worked their way back into the contest.

Evie Purukamu scored the Knights first before Makenzi Nelson added a double inside three minutes.
