Pathways Report: Junior Reps qualify for Grand Final

In this week's pathways report, we take a look at the nib Newcastle Knights pathways teams in the Knock-On-Effect NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, UNE SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup competitions.

With a spot in the Grand Final on the line, our two men's junior rep sides (SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup) travelled down to Leichhardt Oval on Saturday to take on the Panthers and Eels respectively.

Our NSW Cup team played the North Sydney Bears in Round 8 on Sunday while our Jersey Flegg Cup side were in action against the Storm in Victoria.

See how each team fared:

NSW Cup - Knights 6-32 Bears

Our NSW Cup squad has suffered a 26-point loss to the North Sydney Bears at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.

The Bears outscored the Knights seven tries to one with Cahleb Faulkner scoring the lone try for the red and blue.

NSW Cup Highlights: Round 8

The Knights sit in 13th on the ladder after eight games and will look to return to winning ways when they play the Parramatta Eels this Saturday in Kellyville, Sydney.

Jersey Flegg Cup - Knights 26-18 Storm

The Knights Jersey Flegg Cup team are back in the winner's circle after downing Melbourne by 8 points in Victoria on Saturday.

The Storm opened the scoring four minutes into the game before Luke Pietzner bagged a quick-fire double for the Knights.

Forward Edward Hampson also had a double with tries either side of half-time to extend Newcastle's lead.

Jersey Flegg: Round 8 Highlights

Braydon Guyan scored the Knights fifth only three minutes later to keep the red and blue rolling forward.

Melbourne scored two tries of their own before full-time, but it wasn't enough as the Jersey Flegg side ended a three-game winless run with the victory.

The result keeps the Knights in 10th on the ladder after seven rounds before a clash against the Parramatta Eels this Saturday in Kellyville, Sydney.

SG Ball Cup - Knights 10-8 Panthers

Our SG Ball Cup team have qualified for this year's Grand Final after defeating Penrith by two points at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

Coming up against the team that knocked them out of the competition at the same stage last season, the Knights were ready for the challenge.

Penrith opened the scoring two minutes into the game before extending their lead out to 8 points with another try on the 20th minute mark.

Newcastle responded just before half-time through Logan Aoake after a brilliant move and flick pass from centre Jarome Falemoe found the winger.

SG Ball: Semi-Final Highlights

The match was proving to be a grind with the Panthers holding a slim lead at the break, 8-6.

The Knights hit the front on the 53rd minute mark after a set move had winger Kyle McCarthy diving over in the corner.

The red and blue defended their way to victory keeping Penrith scoreless in the second half and marching onto the Grand Final.

They will take on the Parramatta Eels in the Under 19's decider this Saturday at Leichhardt Oval.

Harold Matthews Cup - Knights 18-16 Eels

Our Harold Matthews Cup side are also through to the Grand Final after downing Parramatta by two points on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval.

After having the week off after finishing in the top two spots, the Knights were fresh and up for the fight against the Eels.

The red and blue were off to a positive start when Haami Loza jumped on an Eels mistake to open the scoring two minutes into the contest.

The Eels hit back seven minutes later with a try of their own.

Harold Matthews: Semi-Final Highlights

Captain and fullback Connor Votano dived over shortly after to put the Knights back in front.

The Knights maintained their advantage to take a 12-6 lead into the break.

Loza had his second of the Semi-Final with a well-crafted try on the 35th minute mark to extend Newcastle's lead to 12 points.

Parramatta staged a late comeback with two tries before full-time, but fell short as the Knights progressed through to the final game.

Our Under 17's side will lock horns with the Bulldogs this Saturday at Leichhardt Oval to fight it out for the Harold Matthews Cup.
