Knights secure Lachlan Miller

The nib Newcastle Knights are pleased to confirm the signing of Lachlan Miller from the Cronulla Sharks, effective immediately, on a deal that will see him in red and blue until at least the end of the 2025 season.

28-year-old Coffs Harbour product Miller joins the Knights following a promising first year in the National Rugby League, crossing for three tries in seven outings for the Sharks at fullback, wing and utility off the bench.

nib Newcastle Knights Director of Football Peter Parr said Miller’s acquisition adds further versatility to the Knights' spine and backline options.

“This signing provides us with more options in our backline, Parr said.

“We have signed Lachlan predominantly to play fullback, we also believe he has the versatility to play multiple positions.

“He is a gifted athlete, with great speed and a player who will add excellent value to our squad.”

Miller: "I think it's a really exciting group"

Miller grew up playing Rugby League on the north coast until the age of 22, when he was identified by Australian Rugby for its’ full time World Series Sevens program.

He would eventually score 17 tries in 50 matches representing his country on the world circuit, culminating in Olympic selection ahead of the COVID-delayed 2020 Games in Tokyo, Japan.

In late 2021 he was signed by the Sharks, earning high praise for his performances for the Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup.

His class was immediately apparent upon getting his debut in the NRL, scoring a 70-metre try, making 10 tackle busts and running for over 200 metres at fullback against the Gold Coast Titans in May 2022.

He scored a try for the Sharks in their final-round win over the Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium and ultimately took out the Steve Rogers Award for the Sharks Rookie of the Year.

The Knights have welcomed Lachie, his wife Ellie and son Billy to Newcastle, including his first training session with the Knights squad today at the Centre of Excellence in Broadmeadow.
