Knights defeated by the Sea Eagles on the road

The nib Newcastle Knights have gone down 42-12 to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles tonight at 4 Pines Park, Brookvale.

In five-eighth Anthony Milford's milestone 200th appearance in the NRL, the side were defeated seven tries to two away from home.

The result is our 12th loss of the campaign ahead of a home clash against the Sydney Roosters next round.

The Knights almost had the first try of the night with winger Edrick Lee held up only three minutes into the game.

Although it was the Sea Eagles who struck first blood with centre Tolutau Koula stepping his way to the try-line 11 minutes into the game.

The red and blue quickly responded with a well worked move down the right.

Quick hands down the right edge found its way to Dom Young who banana-kicked the ball into the in-goal and Adam Clune won the race for the ball.

Fresh from Origin duties, Kalyn Ponga added the two to bring the scores level.

The match soon turned into an arm wrestle with the two sides battling for ascendancy.

Newcastle were completing their sets in the high 90 percentage range in the first half, but it was the home team who would post next points.

Winger Jason Saab broke down the wing and received a pass from the inside to score for the Sea Eagles.

And just on the stroke of half-time, milestone man Anthony Milford was sent to the sin-bin for a professional foul.

Daly Cherry-Evans kicked a penalty goal to extend the Sea Eagles lead to eight at the change of ends.

Dom Young was forced from the field with injury to start the second half with Simi Sasagi coming onto the field.

Down a man, the Knights dug deep and prevailed with a brilliant four-pointer.

Ponga hit the short-side and played short for Fitzgibbon. The second-rower poked his nose through and found Enari Tuala who streaked into the back field.

The man who started the move was their to capitalise and KP raced for the stripe.

The fullback converted his own try to bring the scores to within two.

Just before Milford returned to the field, Manly would strike.

Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran combined down our right edge and found Saab back on the inside for his second try of the night.

The Manly halfback converted to take the home side's lead again out to eight.

The Sea Eagles bolstered their lead when Haumole Olakau'atu beat a few Knights defenders to score Manly's fourth with 20 minutes to play.

Andrew Davey scored Manly's fifth try six minutes later to put the home side out to a three try converted lead.

The Sea Eagles continued the scoring spree with another try and their sixth of the night with Cherry-Evans providing a pinpoint kick to Christian Tuipulotu on the right wing.

Sasagi was also forced from the field late in the game with an injury.

Lachlan Croker scored the home side's seventh of the evening with two minutes remaining as the Sea Eagles claimed the two points.

The Knights will host the Sydney Roosters next start back at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.
