nib Newcastle Knights NRL Head Coach, Adam O'Brien, has named his 22-man squad for our Round 17 clash with South Sydney at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

The clash, which falls within National NAIDOC Week 2022, will be a celebration of First Nations culture with traditional dance, musical and other culturally significant activities to take place during the event.

This match is the first time the Rabbitohs have faced off against the Knights in Newcastle since 2018.

Both teams will be without Origin players named in their respective 18-man squads, with a compulsory stand down weekend before next Wednesday's decider at Suncorp Stadium.

Knights forward Jacob Saifiti will be released from Blues camp to play on Friday night, after again being named on the Blues extended bench.

Bradman Best returns from an elbow injury replacing Maroons representative Dane Gagai in the centres.

Tex Hoy will again deputise for Captain Kalyn Ponga at fullback, after a very strong performance in tricky conditions against the Titans at home last Friday night.

Club Captain, Jayden Brailey, has been included on the interchange bench after recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered during pre-season training in December.

This week’s 50/50 charity partner is Walk a Mile Koori Style (WAMKS), an annual Newcastle event led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males to stand up against violence against women.

Gates open and fan zone commences at 5pm with kick off in the Knock-On-Effect NSW Cup match against the Rabbitohs kicking off at 5:15pm followed by the NRL fixture from 7:55pm.
