Newcastle Knights’ crowd leads to bumper donation to flood affected communities

The nib Newcastle Knights will donate over $116,000 to the Red Cross NSW and Queensland Flood Appeal following their 26-4 win against Wests Tigers on Sunday.

The Knights pledged $5.00 for every person that passed through the gates for the round two clash and the devoted fans didn’t disappoint with more than 23,000 filing into McDonald Jones Stadium.

Mr Gardner said the impressive crowd not only fuelled the team’s 22-point win but also the Club’s donation to the people of NSW and Queensland affected by the floods.

“I’m always thrilled to look out at the sea of red and blue that fills McDonald Jones Stadium when we play at home, but Sunday’s game was especially powerful.

“Knowing we were united in supporting more than our team; we were there to collectively support every person impacted by the floods – that was the real win on the day.” said Mr Gardner.

The Knights join the NRL in contributing to the Red Cross Flood Appeal which has already assisted more than 18,000 people through financial and practical support.
