The Newcastle Knights are pleased to announce the University of Newcastle will take top position on the back of jersey for Indigenous Round.
With more than 1,500 Indigenous graduates, the University of Newcastle is deeply committed to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, wellbeing and educational opportunities.
Knights CEO Mr Philip Gardner said; “The University of Newcastle’s commitment to Indigenous people and to its Indigenous students is well known and longstanding. We are delighted to stand with the University during the NRL’s Indigenous Round and to play our part in bringing this to light.
“Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky AO, the University has deepened its commitment to the communities it serves. The partnership between the University and the Knights is just one more step in this journey.

The Wollotuka Institute and the Indigenous Health Unit provide support and guidance within the University, promoting opportunity and excellence.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Strategy and Leadership, Nathan Towney, said the University has a strong track record of providing students with a culturally safe space and remains committed to increasing all students and staff’s cultural knowledge and understanding.
“Rugby league provides a platform for Indigenous people and communities to come together and celebrate success,” Towney said.
“That’s why we’re excited to stand with the Newcastle Knights and the National Rugby League to celebrate and promote Indigenous culture.
“It represents another collaborative opportunity where we can bring people together to learn, share stories and celebrate the oldest living culture in the world.”
