PONGA GOES SOLO
Watch: Ponga makes solo magic
There are moments in games where you’re left speechless.
This was one of those special moments.
In what was a disappointing afternoon at Brookvale, Kalyn Ponga produced a piece of solo magic against Manly in Round 20.
The fullback stepped past Daly Cherry-Evans, wrong-footed Curtis Sironen, fended off Cherry-Evans, stepped Tom Trbojevic and out-muscled Cherry-Evans to score.
PEARCE GOES ALL THE WAY
Watch: Pearce does it on his own
With the season firmly on the line in Round 22 against North Queensland, Mitchell Pearce took the opportunity to step up and stamp his authority on the game early.
Getting the ball five metres inside his own half, Pearce ran hard at the line before stepping off his left foot and charging through. With Lachlan Fitzgibbon on his left, Pearce sold a perfect dummy past Scott Drinkwater to score under the posts.
It was the Knights’ second try in as many minutes and sent them firmly on the way to their eventual 42-6 win.
PONGA’S TRY SAVER
He scores tries at will but Kalyn Ponga also saves them.
With the Eels up 4-2 in Round 21, the Knights had their backs against the wall.
Enter Ponga.
With Clint Gutherson headed for the corner, Ponga put his body on the line to deny the opposition fullback and force him into touch.
BEST GETS HIS FIRST
Watch: Best scores his first NRL try
It was his first game at McDonald Jones Stadium and he showed he belongs in first grade.
In his second top grade game, Bradman Best put a right-hand fend on Kallum Watkins to score against the Titans on Old Boys Day.
