Injury Update: Origin prop sidelined and ACL for backrower

Tim Glasby is set to spend at least a week on the sidelines, with NRL concussion protocol entering Glasby into a stand down period.

According to nib Newcastle Knights Head of Physical Performance, Balin Cupples, the head knock he sustained against Parramatta was not serious but he will miss Saturday’s game with North Queensland.

“In terms of the actual head knock over the weekend, it was not of a serious nature, but due to the amount of head knocks Tim’s had over the past few weeks, he’s had two in three games now, as per NRL protocol, he’ll have a stand down period for this week’s game against the Cows,” Cupples said.

“He’ll follow up with a concussion specialist in terms of protocol this week.”

Meanwhile, in some good news for the team, James Gavet is expected to return from a hamstring complaint this week.

“Jimmy had some hamstring tightness all through last week and got through training fine,” Cupples explained.

“We just thought with the importance of the game we just wanted to have no concerns going into it, hence we gave Jimmy a few extra days to get it right.

“He came through training over the weekend really strongly and he’ll build back into preparation this week.”

The news isn’t so good for the Canterbury Cup side, with powerful backrower Beau Fermor ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

“Unfortunately for Beau, it’s probably the worst-case scenario, he’s ruptured his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament),” Cupples said.

“It’s going to be a tough road but we’ll make sure Beau’s got the best care and all the detail around him to get through it and come back stronger come next year.”

In further bad news for the Canterbury Cup and NRL sides, young gun Phoenix Crossland will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

“Phoenix’s got an interesting one, he’s been diagnosed with an acute stress response of his talus bone in his foot,” Cupples explained.

“He’ll miss the last four games of Cup for the year, he’s in a boot at the moment and we’ll make sure he builds into next pre-season.”
