Knights News: "Working hard to be the best captain I can"

There’s been no shortage of interest in our boys this week.

The nib Newcastle Knights attracted plenty of media attention and we’ve pulled together some of it in case you missed it.

PEARCE FOCUSED

There’s been plenty of talk about Mitchell Pearce being in the frame for a NSW Origin recall but the man himself is purely focused on club football.

The halfback and skipper has made no secret that his priority is winning games with the Knights and leading by example.

100 seconds after 100 wins

“My mind is purely on Newcastle,” Pearce said on inside the NRL.

"I’ve still got plenty of goals I want to achieve. I feel like since I’ve found some form, footy feels slower at the moment in my mind which is a good thing. As you get a bit older footy seems a bit slower.

"I’ve worked really hard to find form and working really hard to be the best captain I can be at Newcastle. That’s where my focus is.”

KP DAZZLES TEAMMATE

Injury Report: Latest on Watson, Lee, Guerra, Griffin and Moga

Hymel Hunt is thanking his lucky starts he doesn’t have to oppose Kalyn Ponga.

The centre joined the Knights from South Sydney in the pre-season and has been mesmerised by his teammate.

So, just how good is Ponga?

“I’ve played with some pretty good players,” Hunt said on Talkin Sport radio.

“The only player I could sum him up to is probably GI. He’s done some amazing things when I was at South Sydney and KP at training. I’m just happy I’m playing with him and not against him. He’d probably break my ankles.”
