Rookie report: Big boppers steal the show

We always have an eye on the future.

Each week the nib Newcastle Knights will identify the best performers from the Canterbury Cup NSW and Jersey Flegg competitions so the supporters can get a feel for who is consistently performing in the lower grades.

These are the players to keep an eye out for as they climb the ranks or knock on the door for a future NRL debut.

Matt Croker

The NSW Origin junior features again but this time in his second game for Canterbury Cup.

The 20-year-old 2018 Jersey Flegg player's player of the year was a strong carrier of the ball in the weekend's loss to the Dragons.

Croker pulled off two line breaks and showcased a solid defensive game.

A clear leader on the field, the young forward is shaping up for a stellar 2019 season whether it be in Jersey Flegg or Canterbury Cup.

Pasami Saulo

He was touted as one of the youngsters to watch this season.

Saulo, who made his NRL debut in 2018, is a big booper with some big talent.

The 21-year-old is starting to build more minutes in the middle in Canterbury Cup and is known for his consistently solid effort in preparation and performance week in, week out.

Saulo has risen through the ranks at the Knights and continues to impress with  strong ball carries and his defensive pressure.
