"I’m one of three boys who have been here since 2015.”

Lachlan Fitzgibbon is one of only a couple of Newcastle Knights left since 2015.

He played out his earlier years at Newcastle and is still here 50 games on.

A definite achievement in this day and age of footy.

Fitz: Hopefully I’m here for the next 50 to 100

“It’s a big achievement and something I wanted to knock off the goal list,” Fitzgibbon said.

“I think I’m one of three boys who have been here since 2015.”

He recalls there was a time 50 games looked unachievable… but the Knights forward persevered through.

“There was a period where I wasn’t sure how many games I was going to get,” he added.

“Once I debuted, I was hoping to be in the side for a number of years but to get to 10 games took me three years.

“Once I got over that hurdle it flowed for the last couple of years.”

Unfortunately, his time in the top grade for the red and blue hasn’t seen much wins.

But the 25-year-old is optimistic this team is the thing to change that.

“Think I’ve won 13 of the 49, hopefully 14 after the weekend,” claimed Fitzgibbon.

“Not a great strike rate but for the next 50 we’re building a pretty decent roster and hopefully I’m here for the next 50 or 100 or whatever it is.

“It’s better when you’ve been through what we’ve been through and once you start winning it feels more special.

“Once you’ve had the pain and come out the other end you get a bit more out of it.

“When you’ve seen what Browny (Nathan Brown) has been able to do over the years, good standards and good culture that we can in-still for many years to come.”
