Injury update: Positive news for Sione, Guerra surgery

Sione Mata’utia looks poised to make an NRL return.

The backrower has been battling a ‘burner’ to the shoulder which has seen him miss the previous two games but according to Head of Physical Performance, Balin Cupples, Mata’utia is nearing full fitness.

“It’s not the quickest process with a neural injury,” Cupples said.

Injury Report: Guerra, Slade and Sione

“Sione has the full range back with his neck (and) strength indicators really well. He’s built back into team training and all his gym work.

“If he gets through his contact progressions this week, all signs say he should be available.”

Meanwhile, Aidan Guerra is on the mend after having an operation to repair his broken ankle.

“Successful surgery,” Cupples said of Guerra.

“Stabilisation of the ankle. Had a plate attached to his fibula.

Brown on party culture claims

“From the actual incident to what the actual surgical outcomes are, it’s a really strong outcome for us.

“Aidan has been in for a recovery session… we will gradually build him up.”
