You won’t see it featured on any highlight packages but inside nib Newcastle Knights HQ, Lachlan Fitzgibbon has been praised for his performance.

The backrower was brilliant against Cronulla but much of his work went unnoticed by the general public.

But not by assistant coach James Shepherd.

He couldn’t praise Fitzgibbon enough for his gritty efforts in last Friday’s win.

“That’s his best ever game out of yardage,” Shepherd said.

“He gets a lot of highlight reel moments.

“There’s no doubt he’s good at the attacking end of the field. It’s his best ever game coming out of yardage. He made Shaun Johnson tackle him six times to wear him out.

Untold Stories: A tale from the other side

“It was a real tough performance by Lachy and one that shouldn’t be glossed over because he didn’t get a try.

“It was a real stepping stone in the development in his career to play it both ends of the end of the field.”
