The under 16s and 18s Newcastle Knights have enjoyed a successful trial match hit-out against the Gold Coast over the weekend.

The SG Ball and Harold Matthews teams competed in Coffs Harbour on Sunday before heading into a training camp.

The under 16s won their match four tries to two in extreme heat, while the 18s had a 20-20 draw.

"Our juniors are in camp from Sunday to Wednesday in Bonny Hills," Elite Pathways Development coach Scott Dureau said.

"As part of that, the 16s and 18s had a game against the Gold Coast Titans Academy on Sunday in Coffs Harbour.

"We hadn't done that before, so it was a good experience for our players to play against a team they wouldn't normally get to play.

"It was a really good hit-out. Our boys have used it as preparation for the camp before one more trial against Cronulla on Friday and then they have a week off before the comp starts."

The two Clubs now hope to make the trial an annual event.
