ISP Player of the Year: 'He typifies the Knights motto'

Luke Yates has been crowned the nib Newcastle Knights' ISP NSW Player of the Year.

The 23-year-old was awarded the gong at the Knights' end of season presentation on Wednesday night with his coach Rory Kostjasyn applauding his efforts this year.

Kostjasyn said:

He typifies the Knights motto: Be the player other people want to play with. The boys love playing footy with him.

He's super consistent and sets a standard for our side defensively. He always turned up with the right attitude. He's reliable, tough and professional.

He's a leader of our side. He sets the standard in leading the team's defensive intensity. When Yatesy is there, we have a lot more starch in the way we defend. He's aggressive.

When he makes good aggressive contact, that becomes infectious for the rest of the side. That's one of the strongest parts of his game.
