Classic Clashes: Knights v Roosters

It was a result the defending premiers definitely didn’t see coming.

The Newcastle Knights clashed with the Sydney Roosters in Round 20 of the 2014 season and ended up with a shock 16-12 victory on home turf.

For the Knights, there was no doubt, this match had to be one of their sweetest victories of all time and in-front of a roaring 15 thousand strong home crowd.

Despite being clear underdogs on the day, Newcastle managed to dig deep, put in the hard yards and grind out a determined win to keep the red and blues supporters proud.

While the match didn’t start off the way they wanted with Rooster Anthony Minichiello recording an early try, the Knights hung in there until halftime only to trial 6-0 into the break.

It wasn’t until the 60th minute the Knights got on the board and it was man of the match Tyrone Roberts who got the ball rolling.

Roberts was key to the Knights win as he tallied up two tries in the final 20 minutes of the match before his grubber kick in the 79th minute guided centre Joey Leilua to the line to score the match winner in a thrilling finish.

This is one classic clash that it’s likely won’t be forgotten anytime soon!
