Press conference: Slade Griffin on Round 2
Slade Griffin described the roar of the crowd when the Knights won in golden point against the Manly Sea Eagles on Friday as loud as when he played in the grand final last year.
The red and blue newcomer admits he believes the crowd got them across the line in the end.
“We couldn’t be more appreciative for what they gave us during the game," Griffin said.
“They understand the game, they know when to cheer and it was awesome.
“The boys really dug deep and I’m glad we got to repay the coach's faith for bringing us here and the fans that have been here for a long time.
“I think the fans got us home, around 24,000 there, and it was as loud as I’ve ever heard.”
The 27-year-old maintains during that moment all he was thinking about was to get it to teammate Mitchell Pearce.
“I just thought just throw it to him as fast as I can,” Griffin laughed.
“I was pretty confident in Mitchell, we actually trained for that before and he knocked it over in training.
“Mitchell is a big game player, he has done that on many occasions and to us he did it last year, so that hurt.”
With one try to his name and an impressive 44 tackles in the match, Griffin said it was great to repay the faith shown by coach Nathan Brown.
“I’ve been confident in what I can do, obviously in Melbourne I didn’t get the minutes to play but that’s why I have come here and Browny (Nathan Brown) has showed a lot of faith in me and I just hope I can do it again next week,” maintained Griffin.
The hooker admits it was great to see a new team come together and perform like they did.
“There’s so many new players and we’re all fitting into a new system and a win like that is a confidence builder,” said Griffin.
“The boys loved it and I think we have bonded over that win.
