As the nib Newcastle Knights embark on an exciting 2018 campaign, they have nine new players that are set to make their Club debuts in Round 1.

The players reflected on why they can’t wait to make their debuts, the season ahead and the massive support from the red and blue army.

Former Clubs: Brisbane Broncos, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

“I'm ready to go, and I can’t wait to get out there with the boys,” said Ese’ese.

“It will be an honour to run out in the red and blue, and it’s been a long pre-season so finally we can go out there and show the fans what we can do.”

Debut number: #290
Former Club: Melbourne Storm

“I’m really excited to wear the red and blue, they have a rich history and passionate fans,” commented Griffin.

“I grew up in a similar mining town so I understand how much this team means to them.

“My brother was born in Maitland and this is his favourite team so it will be surreal to finally be a Knight.

“I have a lot of family in town and it’s going to be a special moment running out to a packed stadium, I hope we do the town proud because they deserve it.”

Former Club: Sydney Roosters

“There are so many positives to Newcastle and there’s the added bonus of trying to do something positive on the field as well,” Guerra told the Newcastle Herald.

“There’s hype and excitement around Newcastle because you can just see the people want the club back being successful, so I’m just excited for the challenge.”

Debut number: #292
Former Clubs: Cronulla Sharks, Wests Tigers

“It’s exciting to make my debut for the Club,” said Heighington.

“I have always not lived far from Newcastle, being on the Central Coast, and I supported them as a kid, so it means a lot to me now.

“I’m happy to put on the jersey and can’t wait to represent the Knights.”

“I feel honoured and privileged to run out for a great Club,” explained Lillyman.

“it’s a real rugby league town and the Knights have had a great following after a tough couple of years, so hopefully we can give the fans something to cheer about this year.”

“It’s great the season is finally on its way and I'm excited to play with the boys and get some combinations going on my edge,” Moga said.

“It will be great to run out for the Knights to the fans cheering and it’ll be something I won’t forget.”

Former Club: Sydney Roosters

“I’m super pumped, it has been a long pre-season with lots of change and I’m just looking forward to getting out there and playing some footy,” Pearce said.

“Support has been overwhelming, I absolutely love the Club and the town, and now it’s time to get out there and deliver.”

Former Club: North Queensland Cowboys

It’s exciting and overwhelming for me,” explained Ponga.

“I’ve already met some of the fans, they’re awesome and loyal, so I can’t wait to run out on Friday in the red and blue.”

“I can’t wait to run out in my first game as a Knight,” said Watson.

“Hopefully, it will be an awesome season and we have some success.”
