Ese'ese eyeing a starting spot

Interview: Herman Ese'ese

New recruit Herman Ese’ese was one of the last players to arrive at Knights HQ before Christmas, but says so far he’s enjoyed his short time at his new Club.

“Everything is going good so far, all the boys are welcoming and so are the staff,” Ese'ese told Knights TV.

The 23-year-old prop is already eyeing a starting spot come Round 1 and knows the upcoming trials will be the platform he needs to push his case.

“That’s the point of playing in trials as well as getting the new team used to playing with each other,” he commented.

“There’s a lot of big boys in the same position as me but I guess it all comes down to Browny (Nathan Brown) and whoever performs well in pre-season trials... so all I can do is train hard and hopefully perform well in those trials.

“I’m always looking to improve and get my fitness up so hopefully I’ll be in the starting team but that’s a long way away and nothing is guaranteed.”

Like the rest of the squad at the back end of the pre-season, combination work is a priority for the young forward.

“I’m building combinations with most of the forwards, we’re all working hard on the little things and we’re all pretty tight on and off the field,” Ese’ese explained.

“You’ve got the older heads like (Aidan) Guerra, Jacob Lillyman and (Chris) Heighington coming into the team with all their experience which is good for us younger forwards, we’re willing to learn off them, and hopefully we can continue building on that."

Ese’ese admits he’s looking forward to the 2018 season kick-off but knows the team still has plenty of hard work ahead of them.

“There’s a lot of hype around the new team this year.

“We just can’t let that get to us so we’ve got to continue to work hard in pre-season and turn up for Round 1.”
