It was the first game back for nib Newcastle Knights fullback Nathan Ross on Friday, after he was injured in the Round 22 match against the New Zealand Warriors.

“Canberra is a big physical team and we didn’t defend as well as we could have," Ross said in the sheds after the match.

“They really showed tonight that they wanted a chance to be in the finals.”

Ross said they simply gave the Canberra Raiders too much possession.

“We turned the ball over too much, we gave away late penalties and it was a little bit hard to defend those big fellas when they’ve got some momentum,” explained Ross.

“Credit to them, they got the win but we didn’t stop fighting until the end.

“At the end of the day you play for pride and you don’t want the scoreline to have too big of a gap.”

With the final home game this week, the Knights fullback maintains they want to put on a good show for the fans.

“It is Old Boys day so hopefully everyone turns up,” he said.
