The board of The Wests Group is pleased to confirm the results of the recent plebiscite, in which Wests members were invited to vote on the proposition that The Wests Group acquire 100 per cent of the share capital of the Knights Rugby League Club.
A total of 13,635 Wests members voted, with 93 per cent voting yes.
A further 212 members emailed or mailed the board with their thoughts and voting intentions. While this correspondence could not be included in the official vote count, it has been assessed by the board and the vast majority was supportive of the resolution.
The Wests board would like to thank all members who took the time to vote and correspond with us about this matter.
Given the overwhelming support for the acquisition of the Knights, The Wests Group will now commence a transition period to complete all outstanding due diligence requirements in preparation for full ownership to commence on November 1, 2017.

The proposed acquisition of the Newcastle Knights by The Wests Group is going to a member vote, which is now open.
Make sure you register your vote by attending any of the five Wests clubs – New Lambton, Mayfield, Cardiff, City or Nelson Bay.
If you aren’t already a member of Wests but would like to vote, you can join by visiting any of the clubs’ helpdesks and seeing the staff there.
Voting ends at close of business Sunday August 6, so if you want to have your say on the future ownership of the Knights, make sure you attend a Wests club this week.

Q: I’m not a member of Wests. Can I still vote?
A: Only full Wests members (all members except social members) are permitted to vote, however you can join Wests at any of their clubs and then register your vote. Membership information is available from the help desks of any of their clubs, and a full membership costs $12 (pensioner $5).
Q: I am unable to come into a club during the voting period, can I still register my opinion?
A: If you are unable to visit a club to register your vote, you can email membervote@westsnewcastle.com.au with your name, address, Wests member number and voting intention, answering yes or no to the question ‘Do you support the proposed resolution that The Wests Group acquires 100% of the share capital of the Knights Rugby League Pty Limited?’ Email correspondence will not be included in the official count due to auditing restrictions, but will be considered by the board.
Q: How do I vote?
A: Simply swipe your membership card in one of Wests' membership kiosks, at any of their clubs during the voting period (Monday 31 July - Sunday 6 August). You’ll be asked to answer yes or no to the question ‘Do you support the proposed resolution that The Wests Group acquires 100% of the share capital of the Knights Rugby League Pty Limited?’ If you would like The Wests Group to buy the Knights, select yes.

A: Only one vote per membership card is permitted.
